Programme analysis
The programme is called bad cops , it included 8 episodes together its about the most corrupt police units in the USA and different crimes and criminal activity that occurred , they began being broadcast on the 9 august 2021 till the 25 September 2021 and were 22 to 32 minutes long , the broadcast can be accessed through BBC sounds which contains a wide range of various broadcasts that contain various types of genres . The main audience would be those who are interested in crime related broadcasts and want to learn about criminal events that have occurred .
The overall structure starts off with background music and the speaker tells about what happened in the previous episode and mentions the name of the broadcast and they talk about the corrupt group of elite officers called the Gun trace task force and the name of the leader Wayne Jenkins , it then goes on to talk about the types of criminal activity the group has been involved in such as framing people , stealing money and drugs then the voice of another person is heard about their view on the case of the group . The speaker then talks about writing letters to all the Gun trace task force officers and trying to get in contact with all of them and especially writing many times to Wayne Jenkins who surprisingly calls the speaker who is shocked to see that he is calling back to her . The speaker's voice is then played over her own voice as she talks about her reaction to talking to Wayne Jenkins . He talks about why he stole money which was in response to his family and him wanting to give his kids a good life , it then goes on to talk Jenkins' time as a cop and how he was taught to arrest and seize guns by any means necessary due to the pressure he faced as well as how he was rewarded for each gun he seized . The idea of drug seizures is pointed out as officers recover illegal narcotics but sometimes just let the dealers go . Jenkins does not specify about his role in the crimes of the gun trace task force , he also talks about the mistrust in the police department and how he played into the mistrust . The presenter then asks if Jenkins' activity was suspected by the police department , or if the other officers about them stealing money . The episode ends of with how officers are punished for speaking up and giving officers power . The speaker then talks about the task force crimes having an affect on the city on individuals and the actions of the officers causing negative impacts on their lives such as how a man was in jail when his son died in hospital .
The purpose of the episode is mainly to educate and inform viewers as its focus is on how good cops go down the wrong path and commit crimes (0:21) this is shown through the beginning of the episode where the speaker informs viewers of what the episode is about and information on the gun trace task force and the criminal acts that they have been involved in . We also see how the episode has the aim of educating viewers , an example of this (12:24) where Jenkins talks about how cops stay together to avoid punishment and to make sure that their illegal activity does not get found out about by the police force or if a cop is suspended or gets into trouble and the other cops come together to talk it out , these activities are said to be used because the aim is to not play fair and do what is necessary for the city .

At the start of the podcast (2:42) where the speaker talks about all the former officers of the Gun trace task force , when Wayne Jenkins is mentioned and where he calls back we hear the sound of a phone call in the background this is to create a sense of feeling that viewers are actually part of the live call with Jenkins to gain the interest of the viewers as they listen to the story of Wayne Jenkins and what he had been doing all this time as the leader of the Gun trace task force . We also hear the voiceover of the speaker (2:35) as she talks about her reaction to Wayne Jenkins calling back , this is used to create a first person experience about the speaker's time talking to Wayne Jenkins .
The mode of address of the speaker is mainly direct as the speaker talks about her experience while talking to Wayne Jenkins (2:35) the speaker tells the audience about her reaction to receiving a call back from Jenkins ' ill be honest , the last thing I expected was this ..' this shows how shocked the speaker is to receiving a call back from the former officer and is said in direct address towards the audience to give more of a first person experience of the speaker's experience to talking to Jenkins .
